About Ecuador Cédula
The Cédula de Identidad is the primary identity card in Ecuador, issued by the Civil Registry.
Our generator creates structurally valid Ecuadorian Cédulas, validating provincial codes (01 to 24) and the Modulo 10 check digit.
Anatomy & Structure of Ecuadorian Identity Card (Cédula)
The civil identity card consists of 10 numerical digits:
| Position | Field | Length | Meaning & Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 & 2 | Province Code | 2 digits | Province of civil registration (01-24 or 30 for overseas consulates) | 17 |
| 3 | Citizen Class Digit | 1 digit | Digit less than 6 (0 to 5) for natural persons | 1 |
| 4 to 9 | Registration Serial | 6 digits | Sequential civil registration number | 234567 |
| 10 | Check Digit | 1 digit | Terminal Modulo 10 check digit with weights [2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2] | 8 |
Official Ecuadorian Identity Card Algorithm (DIGERCIC Modulo 10)
Official validation uses alternating factors [2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2] with product adjustments:
P[i] = (d[i] * w[i]); if P[i] >= 10, P[i] -= 9; DV = (10 - (Σ P[i] % 10)) % 10
- 1. Multiply first 9 digits by alternating weights [2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2].
- 2. If product is 10 or greater, subtract 9.
- 3. Compute sum of all adjusted terms.
- 4. DV = (10 - (Sum % 10)) % 10.
- 5. Matches if 10th digit equals DV.
