Check Digit Calculation Algorithm (Modulo 10)
Official integrity formula used by the RNPN:
Sum = Σ (d[i] * (9 - i)) for i from 0 to 7; DV = (10 - (Sum mod 10)) mod 10
- 1. Multiply each of the first 8 digits by its descending weight from 9 down to 2.
- 2. Sum all partial products.
- 3. Compute the remainder of division by 10 (Sum % 10).
- 4. If remainder is 0, the check digit is 0; otherwise subtract remainder from 10.
