The SIREN number is the single legal identifier for enterprises and organizations in France, assigned by INSEE upon company registration.
It consists of 9 numerical digits, where the first 8 are sequential entity digits and the 9th is a check digit validated by the Luhn algorithm (Modulo 10).

SIREN Validation Algorithm (Luhn Modulo 10)
Validation of the 9th digit uses the standard Luhn algorithm:
sum(double_at_even_positions(d_i)) % 10 == 0
- 1. Process left-to-right (1-indexed 1 to 9):
- 2. Even positions (2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th): double the digit; if result > 9, subtract 9.
- 3. Odd positions (1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th): keep direct digit value.
