About Greek AMKA Validation
AMKA (Arithmos Mitroou Koinonikis Asfalisis - Αριθμός Μητρώου Κοινωνικής Ασφάλισης) is the mandatory work and social insurance identifier for all citizens and workers in Greece.
Composed of 11 decimal digits: the first 6 digits encode the birth date in DDMMYY format, followed by a 4-digit daily sequence and a 1-digit check digit validated by the Luhn algorithm.
AMKA Validation Algorithm
- Confirm the string has exactly 11 numeric digits.
- Validate calendar date consistency for the first 6 digits (DD 01-31 and MM 01-12).
- Execute the full 11-digit Luhn checksum (Modulo 10).
- If the total Luhn sum is an exact multiple of 10, the AMKA is considered valid.
