About GSTIN Ship-To Índia (Goods and Services Tax / e-Way Bill IRN)
The GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is the 15-character identifier administered by the GST Network (GSTN). In Bill-to / Ship-to triangular logistics (billing one entity while shipping physically to another branch in a different state), e-Way Bill and e-Invoice IRP portals enforce strict cross-validation between buyer and consignee GSTINs.
The 15-character format follows: Characters 1-2 = 2-digit state code (01-38); Characters 3-12 = 10-digit PAN (5 letters + 4 digits + 1 letter); Character 13 = entity number (1-9 or A-Z); Character 14 = literal `Z`; Character 15 = check character computed via Luhn Modulo 36 with weights 1 and 2.
