About UIF and COIDA in South Africa
The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) are statutory social security schemes administered by the South African Department of Employment and Labour (DEL).
Every employer registered with the Department receives an 8-digit reference number composed of a 7-digit sequential sequence and a final Luhn check digit (Modulo 10).

Validation Rules and Luhn Algorithm
Mathematical checksum calculation:
Luhn Checksum: Σ(weighted digits with alternating x1 and x2 parity) mod 10 = 0.

- 2. Ensure the string contains exactly 8 decimal digits.
- 3. Reject references with all identical digits or all zeros.
