How does validation work?
The International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) is a 15-digit unique serial number standardized by 3GPP and GSMA to identify mobile devices on cellular networks.
Structured with TAC (8 digits, model allocation), SNR (6 digits, serial number), and CD (15th digit, calculated via Luhn Mod 10). MEID is the 14-hex character counterpart.

The 15-digit International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) uniquely identifies mobile communication devices across cellular networks:

Luhn Check Digit Algorithm for IMEI (Modulo 10)
The 15th digit of the IMEI is computed using Luhn's formula:
Luhn: (Σ d[even] + Σ SumDigits(d[odd] × 2)) % 10 == 0
- 1. Alternate Doubling: starting from the second digit from the right, multiply every second digit by 2.
- 2. Sum Digits of Products: if a doubled value exceeds 9 (e.g. 8 × 2 = 16), add the digits together (1 + 6 = 7).
- 3. Total Sum: add all processed and unprocessed digits together.
- 4. Modulo 10 Check: the final sum of all 15 digits must be cleanly divisible by 10 (Total Sum % 10 === 0).
