About Guatemala CUI
The CUI is the unique identification code assigned to Guatemalan citizens by the RENAP.
This tool generates valid 13-digit CUIs validating departmental and municipal codes along with the Modulo 11 check digit.
Anatomy & Structure of Unique Identification Code (CUI)
The Guatemalan CUI comprises 13 decimal digits divided into 4 segments:
| Position | Field | Length | Meaning & Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 8 | Citizen Serial Number | 8 digits | Unique personal sequence number assigned by RENAP | 12345678 |
| 9 | Check Digit | 1 digit | Modulo 11 checksum with factors from 9 to 2 | 9 |
| 10 & 11 | Department Code | 2 digits | Geographic registration department (01 Guatemala to 22 Jutiapa) | 01 |
| 12 & 13 | Municipality Code | 2 digits | Municipality code within the department | 01 |
Official CUI Validation Algorithm (RENAP Modulo 11)
RENAP calculates the 9th digit using descending factors from 9 to 2 on the first 8 digits:
S = Σ (d[i] × (9 - i)); Remainder = S % 11; if Remainder >= 10 -> DV = 0, else DV = 11 - Remainder
- 1. Multiply first 8 digits by factors [9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2].
- 2. Sum all products.
- 3. Remainder = Sum % 11.
- 4. If 11 - Remainder is 10 or 11, DV is 0.
- 5. Otherwise, DV = 11 - Remainder.
- 6. Valid when 9th digit matches DV and department code is between 01 and 22.
