About KvK-nummer (Kamer van Koophandel)
The KvK-nummer is the 8-digit unique identifier assigned to businesses and legal entities by the Dutch Chamber of Commerce.
It uses the 11-proef (test of 11) integrity validation algorithm to verify commercial registration authenticity.
Anatomy & Structure of Dutch KvK
The KvK commercial register number consists of 8 decimal digits regulated by the Chamber of Commerce:
| Position | Field | Length | Meaning & Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 7 | Sequential Base | 7 digits | Sequential company number issued by the Chamber of Commerce (KvK) | 1234567 |
| 8 | Check Digit | 1 digit | Security digit validated by standard weighted modulo 11 rule | 8 |
KvK Calculation & Validation Algorithm (11-proef)
KvK validation follows the standard test of 11 with descending weights from 8 down to 1:
∑(di × (9 - i)) mod 11 = 0 (for i from 1 to 8)
- 1. Sanitize input by removing whitespace and non-digit characters.
- 2. Validate that the string consists of exactly 8 numeric digits.
- 3. Multiply each digit by descending weights from 8 down to 1.
- 4. Sum the weighted products of all 8 digits.
- 5. Confirm that the total sum is divisible by 11 (remainder zero).
