About the RENAVAM Generator
RENAVAM (National Motor Vehicle Registry) is the unique identifier for each vehicle in Brazil, with 11 digits calculated by a modulo 11 algorithm applied by DENATRAN.
This tool generates mathematically valid numbers, essential for testing traffic systems, insurers, brokers, and any platform that validates vehicle data.
Anatomy of Brazilian RENAVAM
RENAVAM consists of 11 decimal digits formatted as a single registry code:
| Position | Field | Length | Meaning & Rule | Example |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 to 10 | Vehicle Serial Number | 10 digits | Unique nationwide sequential vehicle registration number | 0012345678 |
| 11 | Check Digit | 1 digit | Modulo 11 checksum with cyclic weights [3,2,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2] | 9 |
Official RENAVAM Algorithm (SENATRAN Modulo 11)
Checksum is computed across 10 digits padded to 11 with leading zeros:
Mod = (Sum * 10) % 11; CD = (Mod == 10 ? 0 : Mod)
- 11. Pad input with leading zeros up to 10 base digits if needed.
- 22. Multiply first 10 digits by weights [3, 2, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2].
- 33. Sum all multiplication products.
- 44. Multiply sum by 10 and take remainder modulo 11.
- 55. If remainder is 10, check digit is 0; otherwise check digit is the remainder.
- 66. Strings with 11 identical digits are rejected.
