The LEI code consists of exactly 20 alphanumeric characters structured into 4 components:

Integrity Algorithm (ISO 7064 MOD 97-10)
Official calculation performed on the 20-character alphanumeric sequence:
NumStr(LEI) mod 97 ≡ 1 | DV = 98 - (NumStr(Base + '00') mod 97)
- 1. Convert letters to numbers (A=10, B=11, ..., Z=35) while preserving digits.
- 2. To generate, append '00' to the 18-character base numeric sequence.
- 3. Compute the integer remainder modulo 97 of the resulting number.
- 4. The two check digits equal (98 - remainder), formatted as two digits.
- 5. To validate, the complete 20-character converted number must satisfy remainder % 97 == 1.
